The purpose of this paper was to investigate the onset of child¡¯s problem behavior and the effects of several factors at the time. Discrete-time survival analysis was applied and the Panel Study on Korean Children(PSKC) was used. The variables were child¡¯s self-esteem, social abilities, gender, relationship with parents and teachers. The results were as follows. First, the likelihood of onset of child¡¯s problem behaviors was increasing in 4 years old, and then slightly decreasing in 5 years old but increasing again in 6 years old. Second, child¡¯s self-esteem, social abilities and gender were significant determinants of the onset of child¡¯s problem behaviors. Based on the results, we discussed the implication of this study and the suggestion of follow-up studies.
